From School Library Journal

PreS-Gr 2—A mother expresses her never-ending love for her daughter by sharing the words that she would use if she were writing a book about her. Each affirmation is expressed in familiar items, like the branches of the tree providing shade for a picnic or dominoes spread out on the floor. Preschool through elementary-aged children will be delighted to find the artfully designed vocabulary on each page, with the older children sounding it out, spelling it, or defining it. Each beautifully simple illustration in shades of orange, turquoise, and brown is reminiscent of another era. The crispness and clarity of each page is refreshing and pleasing. This book is sure to make a fabulous gift for new mothers and should appeal to all who appreciate quality picture books.—Amy Shepherd, St. Anne's Episcopal School, Middleton, DE

If I Wrote A Book About You

By Stephany Aulenback for Simply Read Books  2014

If I wrote a book about you and how wonderful you are, I would write it everywhere,"" says a mother to her child. And so she does—with the branches of the trees, the sand at the beach, and even the rays of the sun. This beautiful picture book eloquently and uniquely conveys a mother's love for her child. Children will enjoy searching out the big words hidden in plain sight in the images. And parents will appreciate the message that a child makes you experience the world differently.

From School Library Journal

PreS-Gr 1—This delightful book on yoga builds community. Readers are presented with a brief riddle of a different yoga stance, paired with a charming image of a children acting out the pose. For instance, the author writes, "Sleek and graceful in the sea,/on land I flop more awkwardly./Smooth and round with flippered feet./Think if all the fish I eat" to describe a seal pose. The book emphasizes critically thinking while encouraging calmness, inner and outer poise, and flexibility. Young and old readers alike will enjoy this selection. Children will be captivated by the varying sentence structure and the twist of words, as they learn to honor the spirit in themselves and in others. Namaste.—Tracey Wong, P.S. 54/Fordham Bedford Academy, Bronx, NY
